TITLE:                       Accountant III

Department:             Accounting

Reports to:               Director of Accounting

Job Summary:

The  Accountant III applies accounting principles to complex professional accounting activities including the examination, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation, and verification of financial records; maintains, develops and implements financial systems; coordinates one or more major accounting functions; assists in training and overseeing work of Accountant I & II; and performs related duties as required.

This is a short-term position expected to last through September 2019.  The position is benefit eligible.

Essential Functions:

  1. Coordinates and maintains one or more major accounting functions; establishes processes,makes recommendations on revisions to increase efficiency and effectiveness; establishes and maintains effective accounting controls; implements, maintains, and improves automated financial systems;

  2. Prepares or verifies a variety of complex accounting, statistical functions requiring extensive analysis and interpretation of data;

  3. Assists in the preparation of monthly/annual financial statements, internal and external reporting and surveys.

  4. Analyze and reconcile bank statements, accounts, ledgers, reports, and financial records

  5. Recommend and prepare adjustments, journal entries, and reports

  6. Develop and maintain detailed schedules and statistical tables

  7. Prepare schedules for the annual audit; reconcile accounts with audit outcomes

  8. Analyze transactions for correct account coding and assignment of revenues and expenditures

  9. Develop and standardize procedures and policies to improve efficiency and ensure sound financial practices

  10. Provide service to customers by answering questions, providing information,and assuring appropriate follow-through and/or resolution

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Accounting, the Senior Accountant or the CFO.


Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 5 years of professional accounting experience. CPA licensure is preferred.   Health care accounting experience is preferred.    Experience with MS Excel is required.  Experience with MS Word, MS Access, and MS Outlook is a plus.

Position requires strong mathematic and analytic skills, and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices and procedures .  Incumbent must be able to multi-task, establish priorities, organize efficiently, and work in a team environment.   Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, and a commitment to customer satisfaction is required.   Professionalism, accuracy, dependability and confidentiality are essential.  Position requires close attention to detail, independent decision-making.   Ability to work under stress in order to meet project deadlines is required.

Working Conditions and Requirements:

Work is mental rather than physical. This can be a stressful position due to workload volume, deadlines and job responsibilities.

Position may require above 40 hours in a week.

Position requires sitting, standing, light lifting, walking.
