TITLE:                       CLINICAL DIETITIAN

Department:  Dietetic Services

Reports to:    Director of Dietetic Services

Supervises:   None

Job Summary:

Performs clinical care and administrative duties using independent judgment.  Primary focus is clinical in nature.

Essential Functions:

  1. Counsels with patients and staff about dietary problems; handles complaints and resolves problems.
  2. Conducts meal rounds on daily basis and resolves patient complaints, requests in timely manner.
  3. Tray assessments conducted weekly, food quality/preparation issues are discussed with supervisor and production staff.
  4. Supervises and follows up with dietary staff to uphold all food quality/preparation and HACCP principles and policies.
  5. Develops patient care plans on behalf of the dietary department; attends care-planning conferences and interdisciplinary meetings; reassesses needs as directed by facility policy.
  6. Attends multi-disciplinary patient care rounds addressing patients at risk.
  7. Participates on inter/intra departmental teams/committees as directed by hospital policy or director request.
  8. Assesses/reassess BAMC patients per screening and assessment policies at all facilities.
  9. Provides on call clinical and/or food service coverage every other weekend and on holidays and days when no dietitian scheduled.  May be required to come in to complete assessments at this time.
  10. Completes consult logs on daily basis and enters/verifies charges as appropriate.
  11. Plans and presents monthly in-service programs for dietary personnel; conducts training sessions for other departments as requested.
  12. Acts as Diet Office Manager.  Holds meetings/in-services as needed. Responsibility for maintaining diet office manual.
  13. Counsels patients on Medical Nutrition Therapy per protocol. Provides appropriate documentation.
  14. Counsels all newly started dialysis patients on their renal diet within one month of initiations. Meets requirements of Dialysis patient needs regarding nutritional interventions.
  15. Performs nutrition-wellness presentations as requested. Presentations to community groups as well as requests for in-house participation are appropriate. 
  16. Assists with completion of EOM Report and Payroll process as requested.
  17. Prepare monthly PI report and present to PTN Committee per schedule.
  18. Review diet manual every 3 years.
  19. Participate in yearly policy and procedure manual review, and other administrative functions as requested.
  20. Additional duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.
  21. Assists other clinical dietitian as needed.
  22. Must be able to complete the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.

Additional Responsibilities:

Professional registration (RD) with the American Dietetic Association required. Certified registration (CD) with the State of WI required. Serve Safe Certification desired.  Microsoft Windows and Word experience required.
