TITLE:                       Console Operator

Department:             Registrations
Reports to:               Patient Access Manager, Revenue Cycle Support Manager
Supervises:              No one

Job Summary:
Greets patients entering BAMC in a professional manner that follows the BAMC mission, vision, and values. Coordinates the flow of patients through the registration area; notifying registrars, financial counselors, or Release of Information when they have patients that need assistance. Serves as the main communication hub of BAMC; answering and directing phone calls, paging physicians, and activating codes for internal and external disasters.
Essential Functions:
  1. Understand and live BAMC’S mission, vision, and values.

  2. Effectively communicate with BAMC staff, informing them of patient arrival.

  3. Demonstrate outstanding customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers.

  4. Maintains customer confidentiality at all times.

  5. Responsible for independent decision-making and work planning.

  6. Responsible for overhead paging and calling of all codes.

  7. Responsible for contacting the proper on call personnel when physicians need to communicate amongst each other or co-signatures are needed for the scheduling of services.

  8. Attend all departmental meetings, in-services, and educational seminars as required.

  9. Must be able to complete the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.

Additional  Responsibilities:
  • Additional duties as may be assigned by the Manager of Patient Access/Registrations or Revenue Cycle Support Manager.
High School graduate with courses in typing, computers, and communication systems. Ability to type 35 wpm and demonstrate CRT dexterity. Must have office, receptionist, and/or customer service experience; a working knowledge of multiple phone systems is preferred. Ability to work in a team environment, effective communication skills, and a commitment to customer satisfaction are a must. Position requires close attention to detail, good organizational skills, some independent decision-making and work planning. Must support and model the Seven Service Care Standards at all times.
Working Conditions: 
Good working conditions.  Requires sitting and occasional walking.  Work is mental rather than physical.  Potential exposure to Latex products, blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases.
