TITLE :                      Pharmacy Technician Afternoon

Job Summaries:

Variable shifts, Variable weekends (usually every other to every third weekend)  This position will primarily work the shifts of:  1330-2200 or whatever shift assigned by the pharmacy director. Afternoon position technicians will cover for each other for PTO.  Performs routine technician jobs on a daily basis including IV preparation, medication order processing, and medication delivery, charging and crediting of medications, medication history collection and assisting the pharmacists in the performance of their duties.

Essential Functions:

  1. Proficient in IV preparation.
  2. Basic Pyxis and CII safe functions.
  3. Responsible for pharmaceutical stock and the re-ordering process.
  4. Maintains a basic understanding of medications stocked for the various age groups that we service – newborns through geriatrics.
  5. Strong phone communication skills
  6. Understanding same day surgery procedures and medication needs
  7. Perform moderately difficult dosage calculations
  8. Computer skills – medical record documentation
  9. Must be able to meet the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.

Additional Responsibilities:

Assists the pharmacy technicians,staff pharmacists and the director of pharmacy in the performance of their duties.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Certified pharmacy technician training preferred, current enrollment in a certified pharmacy technician program,or previous work as a pharmacy technician.  Must successfully complete pharmacy technician exam that demonstrates fractions, decimals and conversion capabilities.  Strong attention to detail with accuracy essential.  Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions, and the ability to complete work assignments within a given timeframe. A good attendance work history is essential. Due to access to narcotics and other drugs, successful candidates will not have a recent criminal history related to theft or drug-related activities.

Working Conditions:

Almost always standing, some walking, lifting and pushing. Some exposure to patient elements. Works in a high stress environment.
