TITLE:                        PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT

Job Summary:
The practice of physical therapy by a physical therapy assistant revolves around assisting the physical therapist by implementing a treatment plan, providing patient education, and demonstrating  communication and leadership to address the needs of the patient and their families, as well as foster a positive working relationship among professionals and ancillary staff.  This person may be caring for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and/or geriatric patients and will have the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of these populations.
 
Essential Functions:
  1. Assists in implementing a plan of care for the patient and significant others based on a thorough assessment by a physical therapist.
  2. Provides age appropriate treatment to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and/or geriatric patients and has the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of these populations.
  3. Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
  4. Directs the practice of support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  5. Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  6. Promotes and contributes to a positive, problem-solving or service recovery environment.
  7. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, customer service guidelines, performance improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  8. Documents treatment progress through daily notes.  Completes the notes within 24 hours of the visit.
  9. Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  10. Provides direction and leadership to staff, students and new graduates.  Acts as a resource to promote occupational therapy within the community.
  11. Must be able to complete the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position

Additional Responsibilities:
Additional duties as may be assigned by your director/supervisor.
May be required to work at offsite locations.  Current clinic settings include, but are not limited too:  Inpatient, Mobility Center, Crivitz, and Stephenson. 
 
Qualifications:
Current licensure in the State of Wisconsin
Current licensure in the State of Michigan
Current CPR certification and AED preferred.
Basic computer knowledge and typing skills required
Strong written and verbal skills
Ability to read and communicate in English
Additional languages preferred
 
Working Conditions:
Potential exposures to latex products, blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials and communicable diseases.
