TITLE:              Registered Nurse Educator

Department:    Staff Development

Supervises:     Staff Development Coordinator

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse Educator  will assist with the development, assessment, and execution of educational programs for nursing services as well as the orientation program for newly hired nursing personnel.  Demonstrate professional nursing skills through effective leadership, nursing judgement, informed decision making, problem resolution, and appropriate utilization of resources.  Serve as advisor and role model to strengthen our nursing workforce.

Essential Functions:

  1. Understands and lives BAMC's mission and values.
  2. Understands how to perform patient care and collaborate with other health care providers to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  3. Demonstrate and utilizes critical thinking skills in situations involving physicians, visitors, patients, and staffs.
  4. Maintains competence in all nursing skills and concepts that nurse educator will be teaching to others.
  5. Oversee clinical aspects of the orientation and preceptor program for nursing and assistive staff.
  6. Assists with the development and delivery of educational materials under the direction of the CNO and in collaboration with other nursing leaders.
  7. Promote and maintain confidentiality.
  8. Demonstrate adaptability to changing nursing trends and anticipates/advises on ways to prepare nurses to meet those challenges.
  9. Participate in planning changes and improvement processes.
  10. Assure responsibility for own personal and professional growth.
  11. Assist with evaluation of clinical practice and assess educational needs for staff regarding care provided.
  12. Must be able to complete the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.

        Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participates in classroom education for new hire nursing staff as needed.  Identifying their learning needs, strengths and areas for development, select learning opportunities that will build on strengths and overcome limitations.
  • Participates in hospital wide nursing competency days as needed.
  • Participates in department specific education activities as needed.
  • Participates in mentorship development for newly hired staff as needed.
  • Adheres to JCAHO professional standards and BAMC policies and procedures.


  • Current RN registration in the State of Wisconsin with a minimum of 5 years of nursing experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, Master's preferred.
  • Maintains current American Heart Association CPR
  • Must be a good team player to work with a variety of people.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication and creative thinking skills.
  • Multiple RN speciality knowledge and have the ability to convey this knowledge in a variety of ways to those with less knowledge.
  • Must comply and embrace BAMCs mission, vision as part of their daily practice.
  • Must model and support all Seven Service Care Standards at all times.
  • Must have a high energy level and ability to work under the stress of hospital atmosphere while exhibiting emotional stability, maturity and flexibility at all times.
